Below-normal minimum temperatures persist in Punjab and Haryana

Chandigarh, along with several places in Haryana and Punjab, recorded temperatures below the usual norms on Sunday, according to the Meteorological Department. The minimum temperature in Chandigarh touched 7 degrees Celsius, indicative of the persistent cold spell in the region. The two northern states, along with their shared capital, Chandigarh, have been grappling with severe cold and foggy weather throughout most of the month.

Respite from intense cold in daytime

Despite the prolonged cold, the past two days have offered some relief during the daytime, with an increase in maximum temperatures. Residents have been seen donning warmer clothing to combat the chilly conditions, especially on cloudy days.

Varied minimum temperatures across the region

In Haryana, Karnal recorded a minimum of 5.6 degrees Celsius, while Hisar experienced a cold night at 5.9 degrees Celsius. Ambala registered a low of 6.6 degrees Celsius, with Bhiwani and Sirsa recording respective minimums of 7.3 degrees Celsius and 8.4 degrees Celsius.

In Punjab, Ludhiana faced a cold night at 5.6 degrees Celsius. Gurdaspur, Patiala, Bathinda, and Faridkot also experienced chilly conditions, with minimum temperatures ranging from 6.2 to 6.9 degrees Celsius.

As the region continues to grapple with the winter chill, residents are adapting to the fluctuating temperatures, seeking warmth during the colder nights and finding respite during the relatively milder daytime.
